The violet-blue of the irises in my backyard is quieted as I douse them with the garden hose. I water them in the evening. A time when the sun does not steal the water from their roots as quickly, so they can drink deep. The light from the brewery next door wakens their hues to my eyes ever so slightly. The moon is overhead and my shadow falls over them. Still blue-violet.
